Why I Don’t Share Your Stories

I’m not suggesting you change, I just wanted you to know

So many great writers on Medium write informative, valuable, moving stories that I won’t share.

Why?

Because they are riddled with unnecessary profanity.

I’m not a prude. And sometimes nothing else gets your point across as well as a strategically placed curse word — and I’ve been known to drop a few of those words on occasion.

But when it comes to writing, I find F-bombs and other profanity in every paragraph distracting and unnecessary. Though I might plow through them to get the message of the piece, I’m not comfortable sharing stories with so much profanity that an editor would be redlining it for repetitive word usage.

Recently I read a wonderful piece that was motivational and inspirational. I wanted to include it in my weekly roundup, but I couldn’t. The message was powerful, but I couldn’t get past the abundance of profane verbs and adjectives.

Another Medium writer whose work I’d like to share is a “Medium guru” who claims to have made lots of money on Medium and writes articles with what seems like sound advice. But again, the number of F-bombs he includes in his work makes…
