I love the excitement of a come-from-behind win in sports, when the screen in the stadium is flashing “We did it before, we can do it again” and every fan is on their feet, screaming in support of their team.

What’s going on in our country is, of course, far more serious than a sporting event. Instead of a nation united, we’re a people divided. We are in serious decline on so many levels.

Things have been bad before and somehow we recovered.

Can we do it again?

The United States of America was founded through a revolution by people who had enough of oppression. The birth of the new country meant the colonists and the British loyalists had to come together. It didn’t happen quickly or easily, it took time, effort, and understanding.

The Civil War tore this country apart. We were divided to the point where states tried to leave the union and we fought a war, brother against brother. Whether the war was about slavery or state’s rights is not the point. What matters now is that we eventually came back together and built the greatest, most powerful nation in the world’s history.

Today, we are as divided as we were in the 1860s. Families have been ripped apart by political differences. Both sides are…
