In a recent piece, Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts blamed the water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, on the misplaced priorities of Gov. Tate Reeves and racism.

Tell me, Mr. Pitts: In what states are governors responsible for local utilities?

If Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis started dictating to the water and sewer department of Miami-Dade County, Pitts would be one of the first to scream. He’d scream loudly and he’d be right in doing so.

If any single person should be held responsible for the water system failure in Jackson, it’s the mayor.
