Sometimes I Envy Today’s Young People

I thought about this while I was doing my daily skincare routine, remembering the products I used when I was in my teens and twenties, and thinking that I would never put those things on my face today.

Today’s young people (whatever we’re calling the new generation) have been born into a world with technology my contemporaries could only (and not even) imagine when we were their age. I love technology, but I’m glad I didn’t grow up with smartphones and social media.

They’re talking openly about subjects we either discussed only in private or not at all. I’m glad they’re informed, but I cringe at some of the intimate products advertised on television, radio, and online. Modesty and discretion are good things.

They’re seeing a decline in personal responsibility. They’re often not being held accountable for their actions. I didn’t always make the best choices — in fact, I made some pretty bad ones. But I accepted the consequences because I had to.

They live constantly in a state of information overload where it’s difficult to separate fact from fiction. I’ve been using the internet to find information for decades, but I’m glad I learned to do research in the days of card…
