Paul, you are so right! I think another reason writing has become devalued is that schools are not teaching the basic skills so too many people don't know how to recognize bad writing.
Many years ago, I had a client who started out as the dream come true (interesting projects, paid well and on time), then turned into a nightmare (not going to take the time to list all of his abuses, but they included routinely demanding all-nighters that weren't necessary).
I finally told him I'd work in a gas station before I'd ever write another word of copy for him.
I've gotten a little more diplomatic as I've gotten older. :-)
There are good clients out there. It takes effort to find them, but they're worth it.
Thanks for reading and commenting.
