It’s Time to Reread the Declaration of Independence

Can we apply those words to what’s happening today?

I don’t remember the last time I read the Declaration of Independence, but it was decades ago.

Recently someone said something that made me decide to take a look at it and see what it actually said. It’s an incredibly powerful document written by men who put their lives on the line to bring freedom to our nation.

Here’s a transcript, along with a few comments from me. I invite you to read and leave your thoughts.

In Congress, July 4, 1776

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
