I could have written this! Except for the part about the fire :-) I had a big bash when I turned 50. I wanted it and I had a great time. And now I have a "been there, done that" attitude toward parties that celebrate me. Since then, birthdays have been observed with trips and small dinners that I don't have to plan. Once I got to see my grandson play soccer and celebrate his first win on my birthday.

Charleston and Savannah are lovely for birthday getaways.
